Job Summary
The Executive Chef or Kitchen Manager leads the restaurant's culinary team and food service operations. Responsibilities include hiring, training, and developing the kitchen team, managing food quality and kitchen standards, overseeing inventory, and controlling food costs. Reports to the Operating Partner or General Manager.
Job Responsibilities
Ensure operational excellence in the kitchen
Direct and delegate tasks to kitchen staff
Interview, hire, and train kitchen team members
Develop and mentor Sous Chefs and kitchen staff
Create and manage kitchen staff schedules
Maintain all required safety certifications
Control inventory, food costs, and financial performance of kitchen
Prepare for and manage health inspections
Train kitchen staff on all recipes, preparation, and food execution
Ensure timing and production standards for food orders
Conduct regular performance evaluations for kitchen team
Enforce kitchen dress code standards
Maintain food quality and safety standards
Complete prep lists, order guides, and checklists
Oversee maintenance and repair of kitchen equipment
Be proficient in working all kitchen stations
Maintain a safe and clean environment for team members and guests
Job Requirements
Three or more years of culinary management experience
Skilled in inventory control, cost management, and financial reporting
Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-volume, hands-on environment
Proven leadership and team development skills
Effective trainer and communicator
Strong organizational abilities
Ability to stand and walk for up to ten hours per shift
Able to lift up to 30 pounds repeatedly and occasionally up to 50 pounds
Comfortable working in warm to very warm kitchen environments
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Experience in upscale, scratch kitchen concepts
Previous front-of-house restaurant management experience
Culinary degree or culinary certificate
